ABOUT ME

Embark on a transformative voyage of self-discovery and spiritual growth through the practice of Ignatian spiritual direction. Guided by the timeless wisdom of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, where prayer, introspection, and attentive listening converge to help you deepen the profound presence of God in your life.

In the heart of the Ignatian tradition lies a profound belief: that God's presence is not confined to sacred spaces or moments of devotion alone, but rather, it weaves through every thought, emotion, and circumstance we encounter. My approach is grounded in the understanding that true spiritual attunement requires time, dedication, and practice. Just as skilled musicians refine their craft through disciplined practice, so too does the seeker refine their spiritual discernment through regular moments of reflection, meditation, and prayer. The process of spiritual direction is an art, a labor of love that invites you to attune your heart to the subtle whispers of God's voice, resonating in the depths of your being.

Whether you are embarking on this spiritual journey for the first time or seeking to deepen your connection with the Divine, you will find ways to nurture that journey and a compassionate space where you can explore, inquire, and grow. Lori is a seasoned spiritual director and superviosr, steeped in the Ignatian tradition, and serves as a trusted companion, walking alongside you as you navigate the twists and turns of your inner landscape.

19th Annotation

Simply put, the 19th annotation— sometimes called an Ignatian Retreat in Daily Life—is a version of the Spiritual Exercises designed for people who cannot be away for 30 days to do the Exercises as they were practiced originally. Most of the time, the "19th" is done by people who work full-time but who want to do the Spiritual Exercises. The Spiritual Exercises are a compilation of meditations, prayers, and contemplative practices developed by St. Ignatius Loyola to help people deepen their relationships with God. For centuries the Exercises were most commonly given as a “long retreat” of about 30 days in solitude and silence. In recent years, there has been a renewed emphasis on the Spiritual Exercises as a program for laypeople. The most common way of going through the Exercises now is a “retreat in daily life,” also known as the 19th Annotation, which involves an eightmonth prayer program and weekly meetings with a spiritual director, following a pattern of meditation, contemplation, and scripture reading. This experience gives retreatants a greater awareness of God’s presence in their lives. The retreatant will meet weekly or twice a month with the director as we follow the liturgical year. Beginning in September and usually ending at the end of June.

Spiritual Direction Supervision

Supervision offers a vital space for spiritual directors to enhance their practice by examining their own experiences and responses. Through a confidential relationship with a trained supervisor, directors can explore the feelings, shifts in awareness, and resonances that might hinder their ability to be fully present to their directees.

What to Expect in Supervision:

  • Director-Focused Approach: The focus is on you, the spiritual director. We'll work with a write-up about your session and a snippet of verbatim dialogue. This process helps you reflect on your inner experiences without discussing the directee’s identifying details.

  • Confidentiality: Supervision maintains strict confidentiality. The supervisor will not know the identity of your directees, ensuring a safe space for you to explore your personal growth.

  • Self-Reflection: Gain insights into your feelings and awareness, freeing you to be the spiritual guide your directees need.

How It Works:

  • Preparation: You'll complete a reflection form and provide a brief verbatim dialogue from your session.

  • Sessions: Each 45-minute session, offered remotely or in person, is designed to help you become more effective and present in your role as a spiritual director. Fee: $75 per session.

If you choose to work with me, I will guide you through this enriching process, helping you deepen your practice and better serve your directees. Contact me to schedule your supervision session and take the next step in your spiritual journey. If interested - please reach out.

Group Spiritual Direction
A Journey of Discovery and Transformation

Group Spiritual Direction (GSD) offers a sacred space to explore God’s presence in our lives. It invites participants to share their spiritual experiences, respond empathetically to others, and recognize the impact of these shared insights on the broader world.

The Goals of Group Spiritual Direction:

  1. Exploring God’s Presence: GSD helps individuals recognize and articulate how God is alive and active in their daily lives, fostering a deeper awareness of Divine Presence.

  2. Empathetic Listening: Participants support each other by listening with empathy to each person's unique experiences of God, including feelings of absence, thereby creating a compassionate community.

  3. Sharing with the World: The insights gained through spiritual exploration, articulation, and responding within the group can be extended beyond the group, enriching the broader community.

Benefits of Group Spiritual Direction:

  • Deepened Spiritual Awareness: Through shared reflection, participants often become more attuned to God’s presence in their hearts and lives, gaining new perspectives on their spiritual journey.

  • Supportive Community: GSD provides a nurturing environment where members can share their joys, hopes, confusions, and sufferings, knowing they are heard and supported.

  • Transformative Experience: The true purpose of GSD is transformation—being conformed to the image of Christ for the sake of others. It’s a process that helps individuals break open the confines of their understanding of God, enabling them to expect and see God in surprising places and ways.

Group Spiritual Direction is not counseling or therapy, nor is it a forum for aimless conversation. It is a profound journey towards spiritual growth and transformation, rooted in the humble acceptance that each person is created and loved by God, and that God is active in all our lives. Through GSD, individuals learn to recognize and respond to God’s presence, not only within the group but also in the world around them. Each group is limited to 4 people for a 6 month commitment.
